The Legend of the mountain range that cries
Inpired for its natural beauties, its enchantments, dangers and mysteries, the Tupi indians turn in the Mountain range the Mantiqueira the tragic end of a love history. It counts the "Legend of the Mantiqueira" that a pretty warrior of the Tupi people was desired for all, but didn´t want anybody. The princess loved the Sun, the Warrior of the Fire, that lived distant, in the sky, hunting for Tupã (Tupi name of the thunder, used for the Jesuit missionaries to call God). But, although it has resisted for some time, also the Warlike Sun finished losing to the enchantments of the pretty princess. Day after day, the Sun "made noon" to heat his beloved. And they never had night again, for desperation of the Moon. Jealously, the Moon counted to the Tupã about the forbidden love between the Sun and the princess, a simple woman. As it counts to the play "the Fantastic Legend of Algures", to put an end on that love, Tupã raised an enormous mountain and there inside it locked up the magic princess of the brave warlike tribe. The sun bleed setting and wanted to drown itself in the sea. The moon, with the pain of her beloved, cried myriads of stars and rivers of tears, and its waters until today run among mountains. Thus the Mantiqueira was born, "the mountain range that cries". |
